Women’s clothing has always been one of the most controversial issues throughout history, influenced by various cultures and societies, and has taken on different meanings. These challenges have continued into the modern era, especially with the emergence of new concepts such as “hijab style,” which has sparked widespread discussions about the role and meaning of hijab in contemporary society. The main question of this research is: What is the jurisprudential ruling on hijab style? Some individuals and groups have criticized this form of covering—not merely because of its external differences from the traditional model of hijab, but because they believe it weakens the religious and cultural boundaries of modesty and distances women from the spirit of haya (modesty) and religious dignity. On the other hand, some continue to defend this style, considering it a modern expression of Muslim women’s identity. Although tabarruj (immodest display) and zinah (adornment) are conceptually related, they are distinct categories in jurisprudence. Tabarruj represents a specific form of zinah in which self-display attracts improper attention and provokes desire in social contexts. Using a descriptive-analytical method and library sources, this study demonstrates that while hijab style covers the entire body, it draws attention and gaze due to its display-oriented nature. Although it may outwardly appear as an Islamic covering, its fashion-oriented essence and performative motivations prevent it from achieving the ultimate goal of hijab and entail particular personal and social consequences. The findings show that hijab style is not merely a legitimate variation of dress that can be defined within the bounds of moderate adornment; rather, in many cases, by emphasizing appearance and attracting attention, it constitutes a practical manifestation of revealing inner adornments and thus falls under the prohibition of Islamic law.
